Where It All Began

- WELCOME -

Lets start at the very beginning. A very good place to start. (Sound of Music Fans? - No, okay)

From my earliest memory I have always loved to be behind a camera. Lucky for my parents, the cheap disposable ones kept me satisfied. I would take pictures of anything and everything. The TWO week wait was the hardest part, but also the best. It was like Christmas every time we would get  aroll of film back! I never knew what the photos would look like, or what they were even of. And - God bless my sister when she came along. We are ten years apart, so this meant that she was like my very own model. I would dress her up, curl her hair, and even put a little makeup on her. She was then to go outside and obey my every command from behind my Kodak disposable.

Look at my posing skills!

As the years went on, my taste changed and I was ready to move up to the big league - my very own Kodak Easy-Share point and shoot digital camera! Point and shoot cameras were all the rage and everyone had one. I would take this thing everywhere. My fondest memory was entering a photo of a hot air balloon festival into the local 4-H Photography Contest. I won locally and was able to advance to the state competition. There was something special about my work on display for so many to see. I even ended up taking home 8th place in the state!

And yes, I still have this newspaper clipping.

As expected, life changes and sometimes we get away from the things that give us true happiness. Five years of college, countless moves, marriage, and a pregnancy masked my passion for photography. It was not until my daughter was born that I had the desire to capture life's moments again. My husband and I decided that a DSLR camera would be a great investment for our family. Christmas came and I finally held that camera in my hands. The rush that I felt as a child quickly swept back in and I could not ignore it. I wanted to know everything about the world of digital photography! Luckily, I was able to reach out to one of the most amazing photographers, turned friend, in my local area. She agreed to teach me the basics and the rest is history.

Emerald Sage Photography was born.

I cant believe I put down my camera so long ago. Think of all of the amazing moments I could have frozen in time. No, I am not just a mom with a DSLR that decided to make a few bucks. It is so much more than that. It is deep rooted passion from my childhood that I finally unearthed as an adult. If it wasn't for that photographer seeing something in me and pushing me to dig deeper, I would not have realized my passion and potential.

Today, as I follow my husband around in this crazy military life, photography provides one of the only constants. No matter where I go, I can always pack my camera with me. This lifestyle is a blessing and a curse for small businesses. Starting from the ground up in a new location every 2-3 years is challenging, but the scenery and families that I have in front of my camera keep me going.

I hope that you will give me the honor of being a part of your family's journey. Let me share my passion with you, and I promise you will see it conveyed in every image you receive.
